Recently, I had the privilege of attending a thought-provoking talk by Arka Dhar, Head of Product at OpenAI, the organization who created chatGPT, and Michael G. Jacobides, Professor of Strategy at LBS. The discussion covered several key topics that are shaping the landscape of AI and AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), including the role of regulations, ethical considerations surrounding AI models, business models for monetization, and exciting use cases for the future. I wanted to share my thoughts and key takeaways of it:

Regulations and ethics at the core of the discussion

During the session there were lots of comments and questions about the need for comprehensive regulations that balance innovation with societal well-being. These regulations should address not only current AI models but also future advancements, such as AGI. Interestingly, Arka highlighted how they are tackling some of the key ethics topics, including fairness, transparency, and accountability. OpenAI recognizes that regulations and ethical frameworks are essential to foster trust, prevent misuse, and ensure that AI systems are aligned with human values, and they put a lot of effort on projects that ensure their models follow that trend.🌺

Knowledge is power

Knowing how something actually works will help you understand better how you can use it and leverage. The risk of misusage exists, and the only way to fix that is understanding. From the team we had a session on it, but feel free to contact the Decision Science Team if you have questions or use cases you want to try out.

Embrace change and evolution

The possibilities of LLMs (Large Language Models) are endless and we must leverage them to optimize ourselves and our work (I will admit I’ve used a bit of chatGPT magic to improve this post). Similarly to when you delegate a task to someone in your team, don’t be afraid to try out how these new technologies can help, and more importantly, don’t just wait for someone to make the change for you. If you do wait, you do have the risk of getting substituted by a machine, instead of using that machine to do a better job.😎

Leverage ecosystems

Much aligned to our strategy on pushing our partnerships, OpenAI is a great example of how by fostering partnerships (in their case AI players) and engaging with stakeholders, we can collectively address complex challenges, share insights, and accelerate progress. By leveraging the collective wisdom and diverse expertise within ecosystems, we can unlock new opportunities and drive innovation.

The talk provided a remarkable opportunity to hear insights from key players in this exciting era, marked by the emergence of AGI and LLMs. It enabled deep reflection on how we can effectively navigate this wave of opportunity and drive Ebury to the next level. By continuing to embrace these new technologies and evolving alongside our ecosystem, while actively engaging in conversations surrounding ethics and regulations, we position ourselves to seize the transformative potential of AI. It is through this thoughtful approach that we can shape a future where Ebury thrives and makes a positive impact in an increasingly AI-driven world.
